Why Do The Numbers On A Roulette Wheel Add Up To 666?

You may know that the Roulette wheel which is embossed with numbers can bring you good luck each time the ball lands on your chosen number, but did you know that the total of all these digits adds up to the ‘number of the beast, 666’? Yes, might sound strange to many but that’s how it is. Whether it’s a superstition or just coincidence, is for you to decide.

Why Do The Numbers On A Roulette Wheel Add Up To 666?

Not all Roulette wheels have the same layout although the table looks quite the same across its variations. The American format has more fields with its double zero and displays the inside and outside bets. Accordingly, the numbers are coloured in Red and Black correspondingly on the wheel pockets. Regardless of the design, it adds up to ‘666’, here’s how?

The Origin of the Roulette Wheel

Probably one of the oldest casino games, Roulette wheel continues to retain its charm and thrill for gamblers across the world. The game of Roulette that is widely popular at online casinos can be traced back to the 16th Century. Roulette was invented by the famous mathematician Blaise Pascal who wanted to create a machine with perpetual motion.  Some historians, however, contend that the first motion wheel was invented almost 200 years prior to Pascal’s invention. A Chinese Monk developed the spinning stone to play the chance based game and some say that the ‘666’ number was mysteriously coded into the wheel as a way to cheat the game.

How Did the 666 Calculation Come to Play?

So what does the 666 represent? It’s said that this can be associated with the devil and became widespread when Francois and Blanc- well-known magicians brought the game of Roulette to Bad Homburg and subsequently to Monaco. With the state government running the casino Blanc was right under the spotlight. Some said that he had conspired with the devil to learn the Roulette secrets which could explain why the numbers on the Roulette Wheel added to ‘666’. In Paris, though one could find both the single and double zero Roulette, Blanc convinced gamblers that only wheels that featured a single zero could increase odds of winning.

A Look Into the History

In the 20th Century, Monte Carlo and Las Vegas grew as popular casino towns with the former using the classic single zero Roulette Wheel and the latter employing the American double zero wheel. With the gambling industry booming in the 70s decade, casinos became more popular worldwide and by 2008, there were hundreds of casinos offering Roulette games.

Next time you’re at the Roulette table try checking this out.

        • The first reference: Three numbers appearing horizontally on Roulette table adjacent to the Roulette wheel adds to six and the numbers 28, 29 and 30 are inscribed horizontally towards the rear. The sum of these numbers is 87 and when you add 8+7, the total is 15. Now, if you add 1+5, the sum total of these digits gives you the uncanny number 6!
        • The second reference: When you add any three numbers appearing diagonally on the table, it will result in number six. Let’s take a look at the table. The numbers 12, 14 and 16 all appear diagonally to add up to 42. So, what do you get upon adding number 2 and 4? The dreaded number 6 of course!
        • The Third Reference: Think of the numbers from 1- 36 on the table. The first and the last number 1 and 36 when added sum up to 37. Likewise, number 2 and 35 add up to 37, 3 and 34 sums up to 37 again and likewise. Now, following that pattern when you arrive at 18+19, you again land up with a sum total of 37. When you put together 18 i.e. multiply it with 37, you arrive at 666.

Thanks to the numbers and their permutation combination, several experts have developed strategies to increase winning chances in the game of Roulette. Known as the game of chance, many mathematicians have devised ways to counter luck and swing it in favour of the player. Martingale, Labouchere, D’Alembert are among some of the prominent Roulette winning strategies. These prediction ways are suited to advanced players and come handy with practice to increase the odds of winning.
