The IPL can be exciting on the field, but anyone interested in the betting strategy and ever-altering tactics of 20-overs cricket would find it just as intriguing. The most popular and successful teams in the history of IPL have relied on a combination of timely results and effective auctioning. Before even a ball is bowled, a franchise can try to achieve an advantage over its rivals by gaining top players at the auction.

Franchises enter and go into the IPL world. Some of the former IPL champions are no longer in existence. Some other teams who are present now were not active when the race began 13 years ago.

When was the IPL established?

In September 2007, the IPL was confirmed for the first time. The BCCI declared the tournament and said a “high-profile ceremony” would be held in April at New Delhi the following year. IPL’s driving force was thought to be Lalit Modi. Modi revealed the competition’s specifics, including the seven-member council that will oversee it, including former Indian players and BCCI officials. According to Modi, the IPL was intended to get a whole new group of sports fans pumped about the game. The exciting T20 format was developed to cater to a young demographic, which included women and children.

An auction was held in January 2008 to determine who will own the new teams. The starting costs were about $400 million; however, they ultimately sold for more than $700 million. The people who bought the winning bids were also disclosed at the same time. In the first season of the IPL, Kolkata, Mumbai, Mohali, Jaipur, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai all had squads.

A summary of the winners all through the years:

2008: Rajasthan Royals

The IPL’s inaugural season was in 2008. Although many big names were participating in many teams, the IPL Trophy was won for the first time by an underdog Rajasthan Royals, much to everyone’s amazement. Rajasthan Royals’ young players demonstrated remarkable unity and discipline when under the captaincy of Shane Warne, who both coached and captained the squad.

2009: Deccan Chargers

Under Adam Gilchrist’s captaincy, the Deccan Chargers, who finished last in the 2008 tournament, won in 2009. They defeated RCB in the finals held at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, to lift the trophy.

2010: Chennai Super Kings

CSK eventually won the IPL Trophy in 2010 after entering the playoff rounds for the third year in a row. They faced MI in the 2010 finals in Navi Mumbai at DY Patil Stadium, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

2011: Chennai Super Kings

In 2011, CSK claimed the IPL title for the second time in a row and became the first team to win the IPL twice in a row. At M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the CSK took on RCB.

2012: Kolkata Knight Riders

The up-and-and-coming KKR wrapped up the fifth iteration of the IPL tournament triumphantly. CSK made it to the finals for the third year in a row and faced KKR in Chennai.

2013: Mumbai Indians

MI made it to the IPL finals for the 2nd time, and they faced the same opponents as before, CSK. They defeated CSK at the Eden Gardens to lift the trophy.

2014: Kolkata Knight Riders

After a one-season hiatus, KKR regained the IPL title and won the title for the second time, this time under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. KKR and Kings XI Punjab faced off at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

2015: Mumbai Indians

After a one year absence, it was the turn of MI to win the IPL championship. It almost seemed too good to be true that Mumbai was going to play against CSK in their third IPL finals in succession. They faced off in the final of the IPL again in Kolkata at the Eden Gardens.

2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers Hyderabad played the 2016 finals against the RCB at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. The David Warner led team produced one of the most astonishing successes in the history of the IPL and won their first IPL Trophy.

2017: Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians seemed to have formed a bad habit of winning the IPL every other year. The Mumbai Indians took on the Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL 2017 finals at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.

2018: Chennai Super Kings

It was the return year for CSK as they had finished the two-year suspension arising from the match-fixing scandal in 2012. CSK enjoyed an unprecedented achievement when it hunted down and eventually claimed the IPL trophy.

2019: Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians established a new record for being the most successful IPL team. In the finals, Mumbai Indians went head to head with CSK at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in a low score game.

2020: Mumbai Indians

It was a triumphant return yet again for MI in the recently concluded edition of IPL. There was a change of venue from India to the UAE due to the COVID19 situation. The matches were played under very strict conditions. And MI won their fifth IPL title by defeating Delhi Capitals in the final match played in Dubai.

How to watch IPL?

In the United Kingdom, Sky Sports broadcasts the IPL. For the 2020 tournament, Sky broadcasted every match. In India, the IPL 2020 was shown on Star Sports and Disney+’s Hotstar.

IPL viewers in the United Kingdom can also watch the game on NOW TV. NOW TV sells weekly or daily passes to obtain access to Sky channels for those who do not have a standard Sky subscription.

Highlights services were also available from Sky, with repeats showing on the Sky Sports cricket network on occasion.

IPL’s most successful squad

The Mumbai Indians have been the most prolific team in the history of the Indian Premier League. Four of their five wins have come in the last six iterations of the tournament, and many consider them to be the best T20 team ever. Due to their victory in 2020 over the Delhi Capitals, they became the 2nd team to win the tournament in successive seasons. Very few people will bet against them, going for a third consecutive victory in 2021.

Mumbai’s new IPL winning lineup is packed with star players from India and around the world. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain and opener, is one of the most formidable batsmen in the world. Chris Lynn has the potential to drive a long shot.

The spin choices are Rahul Chahar and Jayant Yadav, while the pace challenges are Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. The best all-rounder pair in the IPL is Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. When Quinton de Kock is in form, he’s tough to bowl to. The roster is filled with an almost equal combination of strong and elite stars.

Winners of IPL 2020

The Mumbai Indians were the winners of the IPL 2020. Thanks to a genius knock from Rohit Sharma, they comfortably beat the Delhi Capitals in the final.

When it counted most, Rohit delivered, but he didn’t lead the tournament in run-scoring. With 516 runs at an average of over 50, Ishan Kishan was their most prolific batsman and the 5th highest scorer in IPL 2020.

Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai’s pace pair, were in competition for the Purple Cap but had to contend for second and third place in the wickets chart, respectively. With 30 wickets, Kagiso Rabada headed the list. Boult was named Power Player of the Season. Kishan had the most sixes, whereas Kieron Pollard was named Super Striker of the Year. Bumrah narrowly lost out on the MVP award to Rajasthan’s Jofra Archer.

Summarizing

Almost all of the world’s top white ball stars have competed in the IPL. It has contributed millions for many of the leading celebrities – Virat Kohli’s net worth is mainly attributed to his IPL earnings.

Kohli is the all-time top scorer in the IPL Warner has the most half-centuries (48) to his record.

Chris Gayle has by far the highest IPL centuries, arguably the best T20 player of all time. The hitter also leads the list of the max number of sixes by a long way. He has more IPL maximums than anybody else, with 349.

Both Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer are good bowlers in the IPL at present but still have a lot of catching up to do to reach Lasith Malinga. For a decade, the Sri Lankan’s unusual performance and variety rendered him a threat in the IPL.

The IPL has hosted all-time greats like Matthew Hayden, Kevin Pietersen, Harbhajan Singh and Shane Warne.

Many players have managed to compete in the world’s most lucrative competition since retiring from the Test match format, with A.B. De Villiers being one of them.
